Some Sample Descriptions

Sundance Kayak: The Sundance Kayak Series are perfect boats for first-time paddlers or those who like to float relaxed and carefree. The short and nimble Sundance 9.5 (pictured top) has a large cockpit for easy entry and exit. A high-back seat makes for comfortable lounging, and the wide, flat bottom creates a super-stable boat suited to shallow water. The Sundance 12.0 (pictured bottom) offers even more stability than the 9.5, along with an extra-large cockpit. A stern storage compartment gives you greater flexibility for carrying gear below deck. Ideal for lakes and ponds. Perception Kayaks.

Carolina Kayak: Perception’s Carolina Series kayaks are incredibly smooth and easy to paddle. An upswept, flared bow makes crossing rough water a breeze and the wide beam gives solid upright stability. Carolinas track straight, so you don’t have to spend a lot of energy correcting your course. To make turning as easy as tapping your toe, Perception has included rudders on all Carolinas. Huge storage capacity allows you to pack those luxuries that make camping pleasurable. The small and light Carolina 13.5 is highly maneuverable on the water and easy to lift to your car top at the end of the day. It features a lower cockpit rim to better fit paddlers with shorter torsos. The 14.5 is the perfect balance of speed, stability, and capacity for most people. The 16.0 is the super-sized Carolina for big paddlers and cavernous cargo holds. Bottom Line: Gets you away from it all with comfort, style, and grace.

Sonoma Kayak: Description of Perception Sonoma 13.5 Kayak: If you like day tripping in calm water, check out this boat. Perception’s revolutionary new material, Airalite, is formed into a day touring kayak that is almost as featherweight as a composite boat while retaining plastic’s durability and price. The lightness of this craft is especially evident when sparingly loaded, but there is room for overnight gear. The Sonoma is an excellent boat for those who insist on true straight-line tracking. A two-tone, yacht-like, high-gloss finish matches the composite-like performance. Bottom Line: Sonoma combines the best of composite and the best of plastic. Go farther faster and don’t worry about bringing a repair kit. Then lift it onto your car by yourself!

Makai Kayak: Description of Islander Makai 9.5 Kayak: Why stay dry? If you are lucky enough to paddle warm water, try the open-air comfort of a sit-on top touring kayak. Secure your snorkel gear in the bow storage compartment and lash a scuba tank or a cooler in the aft cargo recess. The hard-tracking hull goes straight and fast. Makais stack solidly, making storage convenient and compact. Bottom Line: Sit on top of the world in a Makai 9.5

Shadow 16.5 Kayak: The Perception Shadow Kayak is a big expedition boat for smaller paddlers. All of Perception’s advantages are here: a long, slender shape for speed and paddling ease, upswept bow with reserved volume to slice through and lift over the roughest seas, and a modified V-hull with soft chines for straight tracking and easy turning. And they are all wrapped up in one of the lightest plastic expedition kayaks made. Perception lowered the cockpit rim on the Shadow to allow efficient paddling angles for shorter torsos. ALSO AVAILABLE IN ARAMID FIBER. What's the difference? Aramid Fiber is a fraction of the weight of Roto Molded Plastic making AF boats MUCH faster and easier to transport; however, Roto Molded Plastic is more durable than Aramid Fiber. Bottom Line: The Shadow allows the smaller paddler a fast escape to the world beyond civilization.

Kodiak Kayak: The Prijon Kodiak Kayakis designed to balance the counter-purposes of speed, carrying capacity, stability, and comfort. Kayakers who want to go far fast with the least amount of paddling effort prefer boats that are long and slender (oh yeah, and watertight). The 17’ Kodiak, with a trihedral hull & convex waterlines similar to racing kayaks, fits the bill with some interesting improvements. The fish-form puts the wide point at the knees instead of the hips for excellent stability in rolling seas and most wind conditions. The Kodiak’s unusual double-chine arrangement allows good speed and remarkable controllability for an expedition kayak. Enjoy a generous 9550 cubic inches of stowage space. Other features include an adjustable seat, thigh brace and back brace with cover for comfortable, extended expeditions. Hatches, bow & stern combine neoprene, hard plastic and quick-release webbing straps for dry, easy use. Deck pack nets organize those small essential items, and the well placed deck lines aid in the event of a self-rescue. The ergonomic carrying handles make loading and unloading a snap. Bottom Line: Whether you’re a large or small paddler, you will appreciate the Kodiak’s glide, speed, and stable cruising abilities.

Yukon Expedtion Kayak: The Prijon Yukon Expedition is the all-terrain vehicle of kayaks, legendary for its versatility, and is the boat of choice for a multi-day river adventure. Shorter and wider than most expedition kayaks, the supremely stable and agile Yukon is ideal for river touring, but performs more than respectably on lakes or oceans. Carve, turn, and track with this versatile trihedral hull. Its features include raised decks for more volume, sleek expedition lines, and whitewater capabilities. The flush-to-the-deck hatches eliminate water & wind resistance and the possibility of snags. Fixed internal foam bulkhead further enhance stability. The bow & stern hatches, made with neoprene, hard plastic, and quick-release webbing straps, hold all kinds of gear. Sit back and relax the roomy cockpit. The only no-compromise, go-anywhere expedition kayak available. Bottom Line: At its best on rivers and perfectly content on lakes or oceans, the Yukon Expedition is the most versatile kayak in the backcountry.com boathouse.
